Do you know about the beauty of the brain? It can do anything you want.

But, but, but you might be thinking, why does your brain not help you when you are desperate to work? We all have been there, stars twinkling in our minds and butterflies in our stomachs, whenever we stand up watching a new dopamine-loaded video. But, when it comes to the point of really showing the action, we don’t feel like doing it.

You have come to the exact correct place. Today, we are going to help you train your brain not to get distracted in an already distracted world.

The Science Behind Focus

The perplexing situation, from riches to rags in a heartbeat!

This is a situation almost every one of us is facing nowadays. To focus on something is already hard, but this digital world has twisted the knife. So, the situation is now more grave.

The qualities of focus are controlled by different parts of our brain, the main one being the prefrontal cortex. This is the part that  helps you:

  • Make decisions
  • Pay attention
  • Control your behavior

When you focus, what happens is your brain blocks out distractions and puts all its energy into one task. That is the reason you work better and faster.

Now, is there anything in our body in which hormones does not play their role? There are chemicals in the brain, like dopamine and norepinephrine, that are responsible to stay focused.

They affect your mood, attention, and how well your brain works.

What can you do to train your brain to focus better?

To train your brain, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Here are a couple of things that you have to work on.

  1. Channelize Your Emotions And Thoughts

The very first step towards this journey is making up the mind, like we normally do. But this time you will be chanelizing your emotions and thoughts as well.

You will have to feel good about your decision, then you can focus better, get more done, and think more creatively.

The emotional goal will give your brain a clear path to follow. Your stress will be reduced, and there will be a balance. So, what are you going to do now is? Picture your goal clearly, radiate your goal through your body, and enjoy the sense of relief ahead of time.

  1. Get Rid Of Distractions

Distractions are one of the enemies of your low focus.

When you’re surrounded by distractions and stress, it’s hard to focus. So, you have to eliminate these distractions at the very beginning. To help yourself, you can also use time blocking.

Better way to do is wake up in the morning, plan your day ahead and one by one get it done.

One of the good riddances is your phone. Try keeping it away when working. Even better, if possible, keep it in another room.

  1. Set Your Priorities

Another thing you can do to train your mind is to write down your daily goals the night before. By doing this, you will already have in your mind what’s important, in this way you will handle important tasks first.

You can also break big tasks into smaller steps to make them easier and less stressful.

To give your brain a boost of dopamine, which is a chemical that helps you feel good and stay motivated, you need to do smaller tasks. Every small win trains your brain to keep going and reach more goals over time.

  1. Timer Or Switching Task

What’s the timer in your phone doing if you can’t utilize it?

Do you know you can train your brain to focus just by using a timer? Decide the task you want to do, set a timer for it, start working and boom, here you have it  without any distractions.

You can also take a break after your work, just like a 5-minute break.  During this break, you can stretch, walk around, or just relax. It’s up to you.

When you are working on a specific task, you might feel stuck or bored with that task. As soon as it that happens, immediately switch to a task you enjoy.

Changing tasks now and then can help your brain stay fresh, focused, and productive for longer.

  1. Physical And Mental Wellness

In the end, it is all about your good body and mind.

Take good care of it. It is one of the best ways to improve focus, don’t miss your trainings, or nutrition. When you’re healthy, you will automatically be:

  • Thinking straight and clearly
  • Handle stress
  • Avoid feeling burned out

You will definitely have heard to get enough sleep, move your body, eat healthy food, do it already, what’s the delay?

One thing more you will have to consider is not to take stress at all. You are not able to achieve your deadline, it’s fine, don’t burden yourself! But stay away from stress.

Even small amounts of stress can make it hard to focus. So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, pause for a bit, talk to a friend, take a walk, or try some deep breathing or meditation.

Final Words

You are going to remember one thing always: your brain is powerful.

It just needs a little direction and care. Some days will be better and some will be tough, and that’s completely okay. You will have to be patient with yourself, stay consistent. Slowly but surely, you’ll notice a big difference.

If you know someone who is easily distracted, share these tips with them now.
