Let’s Wander Into Wonder

What makes a wonder a wonder? Mystique, awe, inspiring, or intellectual curiosity?

What really makes something a “wonder” or the criteria to be called a “Wonder of the World”? First of all, it has to be famous, or you can say it must represent an important part of human history.

Secondly, it should be unique, just like the pyramids of Giza. There can’t be two exact pyramids located in different parts of the world. And it should have something that we call the “astonished” factor. It should have the ability to amaze us.

You know what the most important requirement is when it comes to great wonders? That they are magical and mysterious. The curiosity is where it becomes more interesting, the more we learn about it. It is a feeling to get inspired or fascinated by our cores.

Wonders aren’t something that can be found only in history. We are the people of the present, and we are making history.

Here is a list of some magical places with massive structures, where these natural and man-made wonders show the power of human creativity and the beauty of nature.

  1. Victoria Falls, Zambia

Call it Victoria Falls or Mosi-oa-Tunya (The Smoke That Thunders).

It is a beautiful waterfall whose edge is broken into parts by small islands and rocky areas. A British explorer, David Livingstone, was the first European to see this fall on November 16, 1855, and hence was given the name of Victoria Falls after Queen Victoria of the UK.

Today, tourists from all over the world visit not only the falls but also the nearby Victoria Falls National Park in Zimbabwe and Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia. These parks are also home to many wildlife.

  1. The Grand Canyon, USA

The Grand Canyon, a place of steep, narrow valleys, waterfalls, and unique rock formations.

It is a huge and deep valley in Northern Arizona, where the Colorado River flows.

The canyon’s history goes much deeper than its 277-mile length. Humans first discovered it around 12,000 years ago, when the first Americans moved across the continent.

By the sixteenth century, a few Spanish adventurers were passing through. In May 1869, one-armed Civil War veteran John Wesley Powell, future chief of the US Geological Survey, led nine men on an unparalleled rowing excursion down the Colorado River.

His account from that expedition, as well as one from two years later, contributed to the Grand Canyon’s image as a national icon and natural wonder.
